WVG Medien Signs Cooperation with ICESTORM Entertainment

(Hamburg/Berlin 5 September 2007) ICESTORM Entertainment GmbH, Berlin and WVG Medien GmbH, Hamburg, a member company of the Splendid Group, have signed a distribution cooperation agreement. From September 2007, WVG Medien will handle distribution for ICESTORM titles in the "Special Interest" segment in German speaking countries.
"In WVG Medien GmbH we have won another strong distribution partner and we are convinced that in this way we have created an outstanding distribution platform for the "Special Interest" pillar of our programme. Together with WVG we will be able to distribute our products throughout the area. We are looking forward to future cooperation, said Brigitte Miesen and Gerhard Sieber, both managing directors of ICESTORM Entertainment GmbH.
Alexander Welzhofer, managing director of WVG Medien GmbH, adds: "We are looking forward to being able to further consolidate our market position in the Special Interest segment by adding on the ICESTORM programme. Moreover, we are confident that our continuously growing selection of Special Interest titles will enable us to offer retailers better segmentation opportunities.
The Berlin based ICESTORM Entertainment GmbH was founded in 1997 with the goal of offering the public culturally superior film television content on DVD. ICESTORM Entertainment GmbH owns the exclusive utilization rights of all DEFA film productions for every kind of audiovisual media worldwide. This includes feature and children's films, animation films and documentaries as well as short films and periodicals such as the DEFA newsreel "Eyewitness.
Since 1999, the number of company's programme pillars have been continuously expanded. The productions created in cooperation with famous TV broadcasting corporations include various television broadcasts and music programmes on DVD. These include "The Dead Pool", "The Future is Wild" and "Metropolis".
Furthermore, since 2003, ICESTORM has also had Russian master works by legendary directors such as Tarkowskij and Eisenstein in their programme. In 2006, the company introduced Cuban classics to Germany on DVD for the first time.
ICESTORM Entertainment GmbH would like their work to promote understanding between East and West―in Germany, in Europe and worldwide.
WVG Medien GmbH is one of the most important, independent DVD suppliers in German speaking countries. In addition to their own programme, WVG distributes DVD titles for some 30 different partners, including National Geographic, Time Life, Splendid and Polyband.
In 2000, WVG was founded under the name Warner Vision Vertriebs GmbH as a business unit of Warner Music Germany GmbH. In the summer of 2004 they separated from Warner Music Group and subsequently changed their name to WVG Medien GmbH. Today, WVG is a 90-percent subsidiary of Splendid Medien AG, Cologne (WKN: 727 950). The other 10 percent is held by Alexander Welzhofer, the managing director of WVG Medien GmbH.
