polyband anime brings this year's Berlinale entry "A NEW DAWN" to German cinemas
"A NEW DAWN" was produced at Studio Outtriger and is the feature film debut of Japanese artist and illustrator Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, who is also responsible for the screenplay in addition to directing. Yoshitoshi Shinomiya is known, among other things, for his successful implementation of flashbacks in the acclaimed anime film "Your Name." (2016, directed by Makoto Shinkai).
The Japanese theatrical release of "A NEW DAWN" is scheduled for March 6, 2026; polyband anime is expected to release the film in German theaters in fall 2026 and subsequently release it on home entertainment. Exact dates and details have not yet been finalized and will be announced in due course.
Synopsis:
The Obinata fireworks factory, once located in a lush green forest area, is scheduled to be demolished the next day by administrative order; the plan is to extend a prefectural road across the site. For four years, Keitaro has locked himself in the abandoned factory, where he makes fireworks all by himself. He is determined to unravel the mystery of Shuhari—a mythical firework that symbolizes the universe and was created by his father before he disappeared
without a trace. “A NEW DAWN” is a story about a family's legacy, childhood friendship, and the effects of climate change and urban sprawl on a picturesque village.
