(Cologne, August 13, 2026) – Marsupilami, the adorable creature with the giant eyes, has already taken the big screen by storm in France. With more than six million viewers, the comic book adaptation is the most successful film of the year there. Now MARSUPILAMI is set to enchant German moviegoers as well. The film opens nationwide on August 20, 2026.

This family-friendly movie is a lovingly crafted adaptation loosely based on the famous comics by Belgian cartoonist André Franquin, which were published in Germany by Carlsen Verlag and have already delighted generations of children and adults. Alongside Philippe Lacheau, the popular French comedian (director and actor), and superstar Jean Reno, the Marsupilami plays the lead role—created using classic animatronics and without computer-generated effects. MARSUPILAMI combines humorous family entertainment with plenty of adventure—a must-see mix of slapstick, hearty jokes, and heartfelt moments—an experience for young and old alike!

About the plot:

Things aren’t going so well for David (Philippe Lacheau), who works at a zoo. As usual, his ex-wife Tess (Élodie Fontan) gives him a hard time when he’s late bringing their son Léo (Corentin Guillot) back to her yet again. But Léo has only one wish: to go on vacation with both Mom and Dad—on one condition: they can’t fight. Shortly afterward, David’s shady boss (Jean Reno) gives him an ultimatum: Either he can serve as food for the hyenas at the zoo, or he can smuggle a mysterious package during a cruise from South America to France. And to maintain the cover, the whole family gets to come along. This surprise vacation is anything but ordinary, because the package is highly sought after. When a small, spotted creature with huge eyes and an extra-long tail suddenly pops out of the package, it’s clear why: it’s a cute Marsupilami baby! Hunters and protectors of the legendary creature enter the scene, and a crazy adventure full of fun, chaos, and surprises begins…
