Cologne, Berlin, 16 February 2024 - Splendid celebrates its birthday! On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Splendid Group popped the corks at the Berlinale on February 14th. In the exclusive location of the Solar Sky Bar, CEO Andreas R. Klein and the Splendid Group team welcomed their guests to toast to 50 years of Splendid film-history. The glittering party was held on two floors with delicious food, sparkling drinks and cool beats, all under the theme of the 70s.
Since the company was founded in 1974, the Splendid Group has brought numerous premieres to German theatres and has stood for both popular and culturally sophisticated cinema ever since. The spectrum is wide-ranging: from thrillers and comedies to high-quality documentaries and animated films – there is everything to delight the audiences!
The Splendid Group's cinema releases in German-speaking countries include top-class film classics such as the four-time Oscar©-winning Steven Soderbergh thriller TRAFFIC with Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Martin Scorsese’s epic GANGS OF NEW YORK with Leonardo DiCaprio and Oscar©-winner Daniel Day-Lewis, as well as the theatrical release of the first three films in the EXPENDABLES series. In 2023, the company released the Ukrainian animated film MAVKA as well as DE ONEINDIGE SLIJMFILM in the Netherlands and Belgium, which followed on from the success of the first three parts of the SLIJMFIM series. 2/2 They also produced or rather co-produced and released a number of German and Dutch films, including the thriller GLETSCHERGRAB (OPERATION NAPOLEON), the high-school musical-comedy SYSTEMFEHLER - WENN INGE TANZT and the successful cinema franchises in Belgium and the Netherlands – MISFIT and SLIJMFILM. Over the past 50 years, the Splendid Group continuously developed and reinvented itself: starting with the purchase and sale of film licences, the Home Entertainment and Postproduction divisions have been established and expanded.
